The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that it is of great importance for the countries of the East African Community to strengthen cooperation in the field of economic diplomacy, trade and investment.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this, July 06, 2026, when he met with the new Ambassador of Tanzania to Uganda, Hon. Ambassador Major General Marco Elisha Gaguti, who arrived at the State House in Zanzibar to bid farewell before heading to his duty station.
President Dr. Mwinyi said it is an opportune time for East African countries to continue strengthening trade and investment cooperation, with the aim of benefiting from the various economic opportunities available in those countries.
He explained that good relations between those countries are an important basis for growing the economy and enhancing the welfare of the people.
In addition, President Dr. Mwinyi has urged Ambassador Marco to use his position to promote investment opportunities and tourism attractions in Tanzania, including Zanzibar, in Uganda, especially to companies, traders and large investors, so that they can come and invest in the country.
President Dr. Mwinyi has assured Ambassador Marco of full cooperation in the implementation of his new consular duties, while advising him to take special efforts to persuade and connect Ugandan traders and investors to take advantage of the existing opportunities to invest in Tanzania.
Hon. Ambassador Major General Marco Elisha Gaguti has assured President Dr. Mwinyi that he will do everything possible to carry out his duties effectively, in accordance with the guidelines and instructions he received, in parallel with strategically developing economic diplomacy between Tanzania and Uganda.
