Those carrying out activities on TANESCO infrastructure will be required to leave

The Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) has continued to urge citizens who carry out their economic activities in areas of electricity infrastructure to leave voluntarily because they are endangering the safety of their lives and property.

Speaking during the continuation of the electricity infrastructure inspection exercise, on May 18, 2026 in the Mbagala Zakhem area in Dar es Salaam, the Assistant Manager of Main Electricity Transmission Lines in Dar es Salaam Region, Mr. Nicholaus Kivelege said TANESCO is making deliberate efforts to provide education on the effects of continuing to carry out economic activities under major electricity transmission lines in various areas in the country.

He said that despite these efforts, some citizens still continue to carry out such activities, so he has asked local government leaders in the relevant areas to increase their efforts to provide education on the possible harms that may arise to citizens when carrying out their activities in the electricity infrastructure.

“TANESCO is continuing with the inspection of the electrical infrastructure in the Mbagala Zakhem areas, we are making great efforts to provide education, but there are still difficulties for some citizens. We request local government leaders to assist us in this exercise to avoid possible harm,” explained Mr. Kivelege.

Some citizens, including Mr. Zahali Maulidi of the Mbagala areas, despite knowing that carrying out activities under electrical infrastructure is dangerous, have requested the Government to look into ways to find other areas for them to carry out their work so that they can leave the dangerous areas.

“First of all, let me commend TANESCO for continuing to provide education. We are ready to move from these areas if we are moved to another area. We know that it is dangerous to carry out economic activities in electrical infrastructure,” explained Mr. Maulidi.

This has come at a time when TANESCO is continuing with a strategy to provide education about the effects of carrying out economic activities in electrical infrastructure, so that citizens can voluntarily leave for the safety of their lives.
