Benjamini Mkapa Hospital is starting preparations to celebrate its 10th anniversary

The Executive Director of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH), Professor Abel Makubi has said the success of the hospital within 10 years of operation, while it is proud to be a great support for the treatment of the championship of the kidney transplantation for children and kidney transplantation for the needy citizens.

Professor Makubdi has said this, in Dar es Salaam in his meeting with the editors, Tanzania Bloggers Network (TBN) and Tanzania Network Association (JUMIKITA), explaining the success contributed by the Government’s large investment in infrastructure and equipment of approximately 283 billion shillings, to serve the people with professional services.

He said that the meeting is part of the preparations for the 10th anniversary since the establishment of the hospital, on July 15, 2026, where the trip for this celebration was officially launched in October 2025 and the hospital needs to collect 7 billion shillings within a period of two years to achieve the best treatment of kidney transplantation for children with tuberculosis and kidney transplantation for people in need. the biggest of that service.

He said that currently there are 50 children who need a kidney transplant and another 50 for a kidney transplant.

He said that since the establishment of the hospital on October 13, 2015, it has been committed to providing expert services using modern technology in preventing, investigating and treating various diseases and providing training to health professionals and conducting research.

BMH serves approximately 10 million citizens from eight regions of Tanzania with 400 beds and 1,073 employees, including more than 100 specialist doctors and specialists.

Professor Makubi explains that BMH offers 20 specialist services and 18 specialist services, including organ transplantation, open heart surgery, coronary artery screening, modern radiology services, brain and spine surgery, hip and knee replacements, small opening surgery and blood filtration.

…Within 10 years of operation, the hospital has achieved great success contributed by the government’s investment in infrastructure and equipment amounting to 283 billion shillings, while the number of employees increased from only 20 in 2015 to 1,076 in 2026.

We have succeeded in expanding and improving cancer treatment services, including the establishment of important kidney and kidney transplant services for children with tuberculosis and promoting tourism therapy by serving foreign patients and prominent leaders, including 2,897 patients from Burundi, 526 from Comoros and others from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He explains that the quality of service has increased through the operation of the mesh and the establishment of the Royal Clinic (Royal Clinic) on July 10, 2025, which has treated and served 18,607 patients, including 390 international patients who underwent a major health check-up (Master Health Check-up).

BMH has successfully achieved ISO 15189:2022 international laboratory accreditation, while upgrading its IT systems.

“We have put in place a modern system to direct patients (queuing system) and give feedback, and it has succeeded in reducing the patient’s time waiting for services from an average of 8 hours to only 3 hours. We express our sincere thanks to the Honorable President Samia Suluhu Hassan and his government for the large investment in the health sector and especially in BMH, and I call on all Tanzanians to participate in saving the lives of patients while we promise to continue to live by our motto of wearing the patient’s shoes, responsibility, and commitment,” stressed the Professor Makubi in his meeting.

In strengthening strategic projects, the hospital is continuing with the construction of a cancer treatment building worth 32 billion shillings, a kidney treatment building worth 44.9 billion shillings being built in collaboration between the Government of Japan which contributed 28 billion and the Government of Tanzania which contributed 16.9 billion, the establishment of a Center of Competence for kidney transplantation, as well as a college that offers diploma level education.

Professor Makubdi said that the institution for the next 10 years plans to specialize more and become a medical tourism village in the country’s capital, Dodoma.

Towards the end of July 15, 2026, various events have been planned, including a fundraiser to support the kidney and kidney transplant treatment fund.

The big collaboration that will be held on July 15, 2026 in Dodoma, is expected to be led by the Guest of Honor Mr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
