WAF – Dar es Salaam: The Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Mchengerwa on May 14, 2026 met with the Acting US Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Andrew Lentz and discussed the New Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Health between the United States and Tanzania.
The meeting, held in Dar es Salaam at the Office of the Minister of Health, emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen health security, while aiming to improve cooperation in various areas of the Health Sector including medical services, training for professionals as well as strengthening health systems in the country
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Mchengerwa explained that the Government will continue to value the good cooperation that has been established for a long time between Tanzania and the United States in health services.
He said that through these partnerships, Tanzania has continued to benefit in various areas including the fight against infectious diseases, maternal and child care as well as capacity building for health professionals.
The US Embassy delegation expressed its readiness to continue collaborating with the Tanzanian Government in implementing various health projects aimed at improving services to citizens.
The session also discussed ways to increase cooperation in the use of modern technologies in the health sector, the growth of industrial construction and medical equipment, medical research as well as the exchange of experiences between Tanzanian and American health professionals.
In the discussions, the Tanzanian Government side was led by Mr. Mchengerwa, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, Deputy Permanent Secretary in charge of Medicines and Medical Equipment, Mr. Emmanuel Tayari, Chief Medical Officer of Scrikali, Dr. Grace Magembe and the Ministry’s Legal Director, Rahibu Mashombo, while the Embassy delegation was led by the US Chargé d’Affaires in the country, Mr. Andrew Lentz and senior officials of the Embassy.
