The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has visited the AFCON Fumba City project located in the Western Urban Region.
The visit took place on April 14, 2026, accompanied by the Minister of Information, Arts, Culture and Sports, Dr. Riziki Pembe Juma, along with stakeholders of the AFCON Fumba Zanzibar project.
During the visit, President Dr. Mwinyi inspected various areas of the modern AFCON stadium being built by the Turkish company ORKUN GROUP, which is expected to be used for the 2027 AFCON tournament to be held in collaboration with the three East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
President Dr. Mwinyi has visited and inspected the infrastructure expected to be built around the stadium, including hospitals, roads, restaurants, shopping malls and other important services that will surround the modern city.
The stadium is estimated to hold 35,000 spectators and has quality standards accepted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
