TRA surpasses tax collection target, collects over 9 trillion shillings in third quarter of 2025/26

The partnership between the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and taxpayers has been cited as enabling the authority to write new history by collecting 9.31 trillion shillings in the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, equivalent to an efficiency of 106.4% of the target of collecting 8.75 trillion shillings.

According to a statement issued by the TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda on April 01, 2026, in March alone, TRA collected 3.58 trillion shillings, equivalent to an efficiency of 107.6% of the target of 3.32 trillion shillings.

Collections for the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year show a growth of 23.6% compared to the 7.53 trillion shillings collected in the same period in the 2024/25 financial year.

The average monthly collection for the period January to March 2025/26 has reached 3.10 trillion shillings, the highest level compared to the average of 2.51 trillion shillings for the same period in 2024/25.

TRA has also managed to meet and exceed collection targets for 21 consecutive months since July 2024, an achievement that has never been achieved since the establishment of the authority.

Similarly, collections for the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year show a growth of 114.1 percent compared to the 4.35 trillion shillings collected in the same period when the Sixth Phase Government came to power in 2020/21.

During the period July 2025 to March 2026, TRA registered 900,755 new taxpayers, equivalent to 131.36 percent of the target of registering 685,706 taxpayers by 31 March 2026.

In addition, in the third quarter, relations between TRA and leaders of trade associations and traders were strengthened through meetings to listen to and resolve tax challenges.

TRA has assured the citizens and the general public that it will continue to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure that the collection targets for the financial year 2025/26 are fully achieved, a move that will enable the Government to continue implementing development plans for the benefit of the entire Nation.
