Prof. Kabudi wanted the Commonwealth of Nations to address development

Minister of State, Office of the President (Special Tasks), Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, has led the Tanzanian delegation at the 26th Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (CFAMM) held on March 8, 2026 in London, England.

Contributing to the discussion, Prof. Kabudi said the Commonwealth should remain an important platform to address development challenges and strengthen international cooperation (multilateralism) in the current period of political, economic and environmental challenges.

In economic matters, Prof. Kabudi has emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and investment between member countries by learning from examples of regional cooperation such as the African Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He said the Commonwealth trade and investment platform will help reduce trade barriers and increase trade between member countries.

Prof. Kabudi who was representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (Mr.) said the importance of strengthening cooperation in important minerals and strengthening digital infrastructure to encourage investment, technology transfer and the use of online government services.

These measures, he said, will help reduce the digital gap and increase economic opportunities for young people.

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has urged the member countries to strengthen cooperation in response to changes in the international environment.

He said the meeting is an opportunity to discuss strategies to promote business, investment and face challenges such as climate change and economic challenges.

The CFAMM meeting brings together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from 56 countries of the Commonwealth being an important forum to discuss international issues affecting the development of member countries.
