IDRAS tax system to officially come into effect Feb 09, 2026

Inland Revenue Commissioner Mr. Alfred Mregi has said the Internal Revenue Service (IDRAS) will officially come into effect from February 09, 2026.

He said this on February 02, 2026 at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam while opening IDRAS training for staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and embassies of various countries in Tanzania.

He said this system will replace the existing internal tax systems, including taxpayer registration, tax return submission, tax payment, refund of additional tax payments, registration and management of EFD.

IDRAS project manager, Mr. Frank Mwaselela said some of the benefits of the IDRAS system are to simplify all internal tax management services including taxpayer registration and issuance of driver’s licenses.

Other benefits include vehicle registration, tax return filing, tax collection and payment, tax debt management and enforcement, raw material and product management and issuing electronic receipts. The IDRAS system will be an alternative to EFD machines.

“If your EFD machine has any challenges and fails to work on time, then you can use the IDRAS system to issue receipts and give them to your client so that he can continue with his work quickly”, said Mr. Mwaselela

He went on to mention other benefits as tax refund management, Communication, Tax Objections and knowledge management.

The IDRAS system aims to enhance service delivery using modern technology and thus provide many benefits to taxpayers and the public at large.
