Tanzania and Brazil have pledged to continue cooperation in strategic sectors of broad interest to the two countries including Health, Agriculture, Trade, Investment, Education and Defense and Security.
This was stated during talks between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe and the Brazilian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Gustavo Martins Nogueira, held at the Ministry’s Offices in Dodoma on January 29, 2026.
The leaders discussed issues regarding the existing cooperation between Tanzania and Brazil over the past five decades and agreed to continue strengthening the cooperation and taking it to higher levels to enable the citizens to benefit from it.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Maghembe thanked the Brazilian Government for supporting the implementation of the Beyond Cotton and Cotton Victoria cotton projects and stressed the importance of launching more projects.
“These projects are focused on helping cotton farmers in the country by increasing the value of the crop and its products as well as raising the productivity of the crop in general,” said Dr. Maghembe.
Dr. Maghembe requested the Government of Brazil to collaborate with the Government of Tanzania to contribute funds for the implementation of the Sickle Cell Disease Control Project in the country and to complete discussions on the implementation of the Maternal and Child Health Project-Zanzibar.
Similarly, Dr. Maghembe requested Brazil to collaborate with Tanzania to develop talents and provide their experience in organizing various sports competitions in order to better prepare for the hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) expected to be held in the country in 2027.
Mr. Nogueira thanked the Government of Tanzania for being a close partner of Brazil for the interests of all parties.
He thanked the Government of Tanzania for participating in major conferences held in Brazil where the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, participated in the Group of 20 (G20) Heads of State and Government Meeting and former Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango participated in the Second Brazil-Africa Summit on Food Security, the Fight against Hunger and Rural Development.
Tanzania and Brazil are looking forward to holding political discussions in April 2026.
