In implementing the slogan of “Suburbs as Cities”, the Rural Energy Agency (REA) has arrived at the Mtwara Regional Commissioner’s Office and identified the contractor who will supply electricity to 175 suburbs in the region.
Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Patrick Sawala has asked REA to properly supervise the contractor so that he can complete the project on time while assuring them of cooperation.
“I need the Regional Office to be given the contractor’s work plan so that we can monitor the progress of the project implementation. For the completed projects, REA should provide information so that they can be launched so that the citizens can start using it. Electricity is the economy, it stimulates employment and investment.” Colonel Sawala said
REA Project Management Manager, Engineer Deogratius Nagu said the project to supply electricity to the sub-district level in Mtwara Region will be implemented for three years from January 2026 to January 2029, expected to benefit 5,646 citizens.
The manager of the Dieynem company implementing the project, Engineer Novatus Lyimo, thanked the Government for continuing to prioritize local contractors, promising to implement the project within the expected period.
