Dodoma: The Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Mr. Ashatu Kachwamba Kijaji, has commended the Tanzania Forest Service Agency (TFS) for its efforts in promoting sustainable forest management, while emphasizing the importance of collaborating with communities to ensure pasture security, environmental conservation and promote rural development.
Speaking after visiting the TFS pavilion at the World Environment Day Exhibition, held at the Jakaya Kikwete Conference Centre (JKCC) grounds, in Dodoma, Minister Kijaji said TFS’s contribution directly affects the welfare of the livestock sector as well as the lives of citizens living near the reserves.
In a statement made before Minister Kijaji, the Conservator, Mr. Karim Solyambingu from the TFS Headquarters said the agency is continuing its efforts to educate villages on the allocation of grazing areas, encourage the use of National Ranches, and distribute free tree seedlings to citizens to promote land conservation.
The Head of the TFS Pavilion, Chief Conservator Mr. Kassim Ally, said that TFS’s participation in the celebrations is part of the implementation of its primary responsibilities to educate the community about the proper and sustainable use of forest resources for national development.
“This year’s slogan is: ‘Our Environment and the Future of Tanzania, Let’s Take Responsibility Now – Control Plastic Use.’
TFS is participating by providing education on forest conservation, combating environmental degradation, and supporting the community through the distribution of tree seedlings, pasture education, as well as health services such as api-therapy,” said Mr. Ally.
He called on citizens to fully participate in the exhibition taking place from June 2 to 5, 2025, explaining that it aims to stimulate community participation in protecting the environment, reducing plastic use and promoting alternative development methods.
