The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has urged leaders and senior officials of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to use modern methods in providing information and strengthening communication between the Government and the citizens, including through social media, while prioritizing the responsibility of speaking for the Government and public interests rather than personal issues.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this, on July 29, 2026, when he closed the Orientation Seminar for Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Permanent Secretaries of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, held for two days at the Golden Tulip Airport Hotel, Zanzibar.
He has urged the leaders to make full use of local and foreign media in providing clarifications on Government policies, plans and implementation, educating the public and combating misinformation, while ensuring that they prepare properly before speaking to the public.
He said communication is an important tool for building public understanding and trust, strengthening the image of the Government and guiding public debates, so leaders should carefully consider the messages they give and their behavior on various communication platforms.
President Dr. Mwinyi said the seminar has increased leaders’ understanding of ongoing changes in the Government’s communications sector, including technological developments, the use of social media and artificial intelligence, changes in international politics as well as the needs of the current audience, especially the youth.
Regarding the Union, he said the seminar has strengthened leaders’ understanding of its foundations and importance, while urging them to develop a message that builds public unity, strengthen cooperation between the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, as well as honor the Union as the foundation of a strong Nation.
President Dr. Mwinyi congratulated the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her vision and direction for the seminar, which has empowered leaders to communicate with the public, strengthen accountability and contribute to the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050.
