SMZ and SMT continue to struggle with fuel crisis – Dr. Mwinyi

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that both the SMZ and SMT governments will continue to take various measures to address the economic impacts arising from the Middle East war crisis, especially the rise in the price of fuel.

President Dr. Mwinyi said this, on May 27, 2026, at the Eid Council held at the Tibirinzi Children’s Entertainment Stadium, Chakechake, South Pemba Region.

He informed that the ongoing situation in the Middle East is causing serious economic damage and causing hardship to the people, so the Government will continue to take various measures to ensure that it minimizes the impacts arising from the crisis.

He asked the people to support the efforts being taken by the Government in addressing the situation, as well as encouraging them to pray for peace and reaching a consensus for the welfare of all people in the world.

Speaking about the Hajj pilgrimage, he commended the Ministry of State, the Office of the President, Constitution, Law, Civil Service and Good Governance through the Endowment and Trust Property Commission for collaborating well with the Union of Institutions Transporting Pilgrims in Zanzibar (UTAHIZA) in facilitating the transportation of pilgrims.

He said the important lessons learned through the Hajj pilgrimage are to demonstrate unity and solidarity among the Muslim Ummah in the world as well as the equality of all human beings before Allah, and that there is no reason to discriminate or belittle each other due to any existing differences.

President Dr. Mwinyi has promised that the Government will continue to take steps to address the challenges identified by the Union of Institutions Transporting Pilgrims in Zanzibar during the farewell ceremony for pilgrims, as well as other challenges that will arise, with the aim of ensuring that more people have the opportunity to go and fulfill the Fifth Pillar of Islam.

President Dr. Mwinyi thanked the Saudi Arabian Government for its great cooperation in various matters before and during the implementation of the Hajj pilgrimage, as well as the officials of the Tanzanian Embassy in the country for ensuring that Tanzanians have a good environment while in the country.

Early after arriving at the Eid Council, President Dr. Mwinyi received greetings and inspected a parade of honor organized by the Tanzania Police Force.

Muslim believers celebrate the Eid El-Hajj Festival after the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage, which is the Fifth Pillar of Islam.
