Mbeya: Some taxpayers operating in the Uyole Valley in Mbeya region have promised to continue collaborating with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to encourage voluntary tax payment to ensure that everyone who is eligible to pay taxes pays.
The statement was made over the weekend by various traders in the region supported by Elia Braiton Kyando who is the
Chairman of traders in the Uyole Valley area during a visit by the TRA Board of Directors led by its Chairman, Mr. Uledi Abbas Mussa and the Authority’s management led by the Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda.
He said that due to the good services provided to them by TRA, they are ready to collaborate with the Authority to encourage voluntary tax payment to enable all people who are eligible to pay taxes to pay with the aim of bringing fair competition in the market.
He said they have been working closely with TRA and commended it for listening to them when they have challenges, including reducing tax assessments for taxpayers who are facing various challenges that are affecting their businesses.
Businessman, Mr. Zakaria Mahinya has advised the Government to expedite the introduction of tax subjects into the country’s primary and secondary education curricula, to enable children to grow up understanding the importance of paying taxes.
He said that without taxes, the country cannot be run and explained that if children are given tax education from a young age, they will realize the importance of paying taxes for the benefit of the Nation.
“Children have been given religious education since they were young and they practice religion properly, so if they are given tax education at a young age, it will be a good thing and they will grow up realizing the importance of paying taxes”, said Zakaria.
TRA Board of Directors Chairman Mr. Uledi Mussa Abasi said TRA will continue to provide quality services to taxpayers and facilitate their businesses while thanking taxpayers in Mbeya region for being honest in tax payment matters.
TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda has commended TRA staff in Mbeya region for continuing to collaborate with taxpayers and directed them to continue facilitating taxpayers’ businesses, representing them and resolving their challenges.
Commissioner General Mwenda has also urged to continue to increase the tax base by registering new taxpayers and urged citizens to expose all tax evaders.
