58 Billion to repair Mufindi road

The government has allocated 58 Billion Shillings for the improvement of road infrastructure in rural and urban areas within Mufindi District Council, Iringa region, as part of the government’s strategies to ensure that areas with high production of cash crops, especially tea and forest products, are easily accessible.

The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba said on May 02, 2026 during his working visit to Iringa region while inspecting various projects including the construction of the 14-kilometer Mtili-Ifwagi road built to asphalt level at a cost of more than 21 Billion Shillings.

The 58 Billion Shillings allocated to the district have brought about a major revolution, where they have been used to strengthen communications and accelerate the pace of development for the people of Mufindi.

Dr. Nchemba has stressed that the region’s roads are the backbone of the national economy due to the high level of production, so they should not be delayed in completion while instructing the Manager of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to accelerate the design of the remaining 44 kilometers and ensure that all procedures are completed early so that they can be included in the implementation plans.

In ensuring that the projects bring the intended productivity, the Prime Minister has given specific instructions to TARURA executives and consultants to work with additional efforts emphasizing that the Government is ready to push for the availability of funds as soon as the design information is completed so that construction can begin immediately.

“Iringa region and its districts are production districts. These are economic roads, they are production roads. Therefore, complete them, rush them even if you have to work day and night,” emphasized Dr. Nchemba.

Deputy Minister, Prime Minister’s Office – RALGM, Dr. Festo Dugange has noted that the road budget in Mufindi district has continued to increase year after year. For the 2026/27 financial year, the budget has increased to approximately 4.4 billion shillings from 3.5 billion the previous year, with the aim of completely eliminating the road problems facing the people of Mufindi North and South constituencies.
