The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda has said that the Authority will continue to fight all tax evaders to protect tax compliant traders.
Speaking to taxpayers in Mara region on April 15, 2026, Commissioner General Mwenda said that tax evaders have been eliminating business competition in the market so TRA will continue to fight them and take legal action against them.
“We will search for tax evaders wherever they are because they have been hurting law-abiding taxpayers, you cannot evade taxes forever, one day we will catch you. And I call on anyone who knows tax evaders to contact TRA so that action can be taken”, he said
He has warned traders involved in the importation of contraband goods at the Sirali border and other borders, explaining that TRA is working to combat smuggling and will reach out to them.
Regarding relations with Taxpayers, Commissioner General Mwenda said they will continue to improve relations, listen to them, solve their challenges as well as facilitate business in the country.
He said TRA will continue to increase the tax base in the country by registering new taxpayers and this is due to the existing workforce in the country not being in line with the number of taxpayers which is 8 million while the workforce is more than 30 million.
Commissioner for Internal Revenue Mr. Michael Muhoja said TRA will continue to provide tax education to citizens to enable them to realize the importance of paying taxes.
Among the taxpayers who attended the meeting, they commended TRA for continuing to be close to them and providing them with tax education whenever needed.
