Arusha: The President of the Lusaka Agreement Management Council, who is also the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, has instructed the Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF) to ensure that the number of members increases during his term of office to strengthen the fight against poaching and illegal wildlife trade.
Dr. Kijaji said this when he met with the Secretariat of the Council – Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF), in Arusha, with the aim of gaining a common understanding of the implementation of the Council’s work, which has a great responsibility for the protection of natural heritage.
Dr. Kijaji said it is the commitment of the Sixth Phase Government under the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is the number one conservationist, to ensure that the heritage of Natural Resources is well protected, so he will protect that commitment by providing cooperation to the secretariat to achieve the goals of the Council.
LATF Director, Mr. Edward Phiri has commended the leadership of the Tanzanian Government under the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the great cooperation with the Council, which contributes to the effective fulfillment of its responsibilities.
The Council, formed by countries united in combating poaching and illegal trade in wildlife and forests that cross borders, its Charter was established in 1994 with Tanzania officially joining in 1999, where until now it has six member countries, namely Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Congo Brazzaville, Lesotho and Liberia.
