President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, said the Islands Tourism Policy Forum (ITOP) should strengthen cooperation, develop sustainable tourism and produce practical results that will improve the lives of the people of the islands.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this on October 28, 2026, at the ITOP Leaders’ Meeting held at Jeju Stone Park, Jeju Island, South Korea, where he explained Zanzibar’s efforts to develop tourism and the blue economy for the benefit of the people and environmental conservation.
Likewise, President Dr. Mwinyi has emphasized that the success of tourism should not be measured by the increase in the number of tourists only, but also by the ability of the sector to generate jobs, promote local businesses, attract investment and ensure that citizens benefit from their resources while the environment and natural heritage and culture are protected.
He has invited all ITOP members to participate in the 28th Island Tourism Policy Forum to be held in Zanzibar in 2027, with the aim of developing the exchange of experience and strengthening joint cooperation.
