Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has concluded a special medical camp held at Sheikh Amri Abeid grounds in Arusha from July 13 to 19, 2026, where a total of 6,864 patients were provided with various health services, with 206 undergoing free eye surgery and regaining their sight.
The camp, organized by the Minister for Arts, Information and Sports and Member of Parliament for Arusha Urban, Hon. Paul Makonda, brought together citizens with specialist doctors and specialists from various hospitals who provided free examination, treatment and professional advice.
A survey conducted at the camp showed that a large number of citizens who came to seek services were diagnosed with cataracts.
The camp is part of Muhimbili National Hospital’s efforts to bring primary and secondary care services closer to the public, to reach those who are unable to reach referral hospitals due to distance or other challenges.
