Mloganzila nurses trained on how to care for patients in the operating room

Training on patient care and preparation in the operating room has been conducted at Muhimbili National Hospital Mloganzila targeting operating room nurses and surgical ward nurses with the aim of enhancing the provision of safe and quality care to patients undergoing surgery.

Opening the training on behalf of the Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services MNH-Mloganzila, Mr. Lukas Mwaijega said the operating room is a sensitive area that requires great expertise, attention and close cooperation between nurses and the entire surgical team to ensure the success of surgical services for patients.

Mr. Mwaijega said that due to the development of surgical technologies, the increase in patient challenges along with a strong emphasis on patient safety, it is important for health professionals to continue to develop professionally and increase practical skills to keep up with the changes in modern health services.

He said the training covered various important topics including patient preparation before surgery, infection prevention and control, use of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, handling of surgical equipment and specimens, post-operative care and communication and collaboration within the surgical team.
