Football rivals in Tanzania, Simba and Yanga have failed to face each other after a 2-2 draw in the Premier League NBC match played on Sunday May 3, 2026 at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The teams have played after playing the Union Cup final match on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Amaan Stadium, Zanzibar and Simba beat Yanga 1-0.
In that match, Simba started the game fast, showing every sign of continuing the victory they got in Zanzibar.
The speed of Simba led to the first goal early in the third minute of the game scored by Libase Guaye with a low shot using a pass from Clatous Chama.
Chama added the second goal which he scored technically in the seventh minute after catching Ellie Mpanzu’s high pass and Chama went acrobatic style and filled the ball into the net leaving goalkeeper Djigui Diarra not knowing what to do.
Yanga also fought and scored their first goal in the 17th minute scored by Prince Dube with a low shot using the ball that started from Maxi Nzengeli.
Nzengeli made a long pass that found Duke Abuya close to one of Simba’s defenders but managed to move it to Dube who finished by filling the ball into the net.
Five minutes after the start of the second half, Yanga got the equalizing goal which was scored by the central defender and captain of the team, Bakari Mwamnyeto.
The star of the party shone twice in the match because despite his goal being an attraction in the way he showed his skill to score it as well as providing the pass that led to the first goal, the player also won the award for the best player of the match.
After these results, Yanga continues to lead the league with 48 points while Simba remains in second place with 43 points while each team has played 20 matches so far.
