The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that Zanzibar will continue to collaborate with the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure greater success in strengthening the provision of health services in the country.
President Dr. Mwinyi said on April 09, 2026 when he met with a delegation of experts from the World Health Organization, led by the Organization’s Regional Director for Africa, Prof. Mohamed Yakub Janabi, who arrived at the State House in Zanzibar.
President Dr. Mwinyi has assured WHO that the Government has been making deliberate efforts to ensure that it continues to use domestic resources to address health challenges while continuing to seek international stakeholders and development partners to strengthen the sector.
President Dr. Mwinyi said the Government has prioritized controlling and combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs), improving maternal and child reproductive health and building the capacity of community-level nurses through training, who have been an important part of the success of the health sector.
The Director of the World Health Organization for Africa, Prof. Mohamed Yakub Janabi said the Organization will continue to collaborate with Zanzibar in its efforts to strengthen the health sector to achieve its goals and priorities, especially in controlling various diseases.
The WHO experts have praised the move by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to direct its domestic budget to strengthen the health, education and social services sectors, explaining that it is a good example for many other countries in the African region.
