Dodoma: The government continues to take steps to address the challenge of wild animals and predators by using various methods including building police stations near protected areas to have a quick response to deal with these animals, especially elephants that invade people’s homes and crops.
The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba (Mb) said this in Parliament in Dodoma at the 13th Parliament, 3rd Session of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania while answering questions.
He said the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is implementing the establishment of such stations in every area that had these risks to deal with the effects of these animals.
“In parallel, the government has come up with a new way to chase these animals in some areas and one of the Ministry’s strategies is to use drones to chase them away when they are observed heading towards people’s areas”, he said. Dr. Nchemba
Dr. Nchemba added that the Ministry will continue to increase the number of wildlife officers in areas with a shortage of officers to quickly deal with these animals despite increasing efforts to combat poaching.
Dr. Nchemba explained that Tanzania is a member of various international treaties that protect various groups of endangered wildlife from extinction, killing or trafficking, including elephants.
