The Minister of Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (Mb), has said that Tanzania and Norway are proud of their strong economic, social and diplomatic relations, which have contributed to the country’s development in various fields.
Ambassador Omar said this when he met and held talks with the Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mrs. Tone Tinnes, at the Sub-Office of the Ministry of Finance in Dar es Salaam where, among other things, they discussed ways to further strengthen the cooperation.
He said that since the establishment of relations between Tanzania and Norway in 1964, the country has been a major player in financing economic and social projects in the energy, oil and gas sectors, public finance management, agriculture, health, education, environment, and supporting poor households through the TASAF Social Development Fund.
Ambassador Omar said that the Government recognizes and appreciates the grant support of NOK 525 million (approximately TZS 136.5 billion) provided by the country since 2020 to economically empower poor households through the TASAF Program.
He used the opportunity of the session to invite the business community and investors from Norway to invest in the country in various economic sectors including increasing the value chain of agricultural products.
The Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania, Hon. Tone Tinnes commended the major economic and social reforms underway in the country and promised that Norway would continue to support these efforts for the benefit of the people of both countries.
He said that he wishes to see the level of trade between the two countries be more transparent than it is now and that he will continue to persuade more investors from Norway to come to Tanzania to invest.
In addition, Hon. Tinnes said that Norway is ready to cooperate with Tanzania to invest in the energy and environmental protection sectors, especially carbon trading, which he said has a lot of money but is also important for environmental protection.
