Bagamoyo MP hands over vehicles to Tanesco

📍Bagamoyo, Coast: Bagamoyo Constituency MP, Mrs. Subira Mgalu who is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals on March 03, 2026 has handed over new vehicles to the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) in Bagamoyo District in Coast Region with the aim of enhancing customer service.

Speaking at a handover ceremony held at the TANESCO Bagamoyo Office, Mrs. Mgalu said the move is part of the Government’s efforts to ensure that citizens receive electricity services on time, with quality and more reliability.

“These vehicles will enable TANESCO technicians and engineers to reach citizens quickly when there are faults or electricity challenges. We want to see the time to address problems decrease and the service is improved,” said Mrs. Mgalu.

She stressed that currently TANESCO has improved in service delivery including from making up for losses and is operating without receiving subsidies from the Government.

She said that after the completion of the Julius Nyerere Dam, which produces 2115 megawatts and leads the country to have a capacity of more than 4,000 megawatts while the demand is about 2,000 megawatts, he urged TANESCO to increase the speed of connecting customers.

TANESCO Eastern Zone Director, Engineer Kenneth Boymanda said TANESCO is implementing many development projects in Bagamoyo District including rural electricity, so the availability of these vehicles will facilitate the implementation of these projects.

“In Bagamoyo, we have a big plan to ensure that every house is supplied with electricity and as a country until 2030 to connect 8.3 million houses and 1.7 million houses per year”, said Engineer Boymanda

He added that these tasks require the presence of work equipment and emphasized that TANESCO will work day and night to ensure the goals set by the Government through the Mission 300 program.

The Government has continued to focus on improving electricity infrastructure as a basis for industrial development, trade and social welfare.

TANESCO’s move to purchase these vehicles is part of efforts to enhance customer service and increase the quality of services to citizens.
