The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has praised the efficient use of Tanzanian tax money for the Julius Nyerere Dam Project.
This was stated during their working visit on February 14, 2026 where it was understood that the project shows how taxes stimulate development by increasing access to reliable electricity in the country.
The visit involved Leaders and Education and Communication Officers from all the Authority’s centers in the country with the aim of learning and seeing for themselves how citizens’ taxes have enabled the implementation of this major national strategic project.
Speaking immediately after the visit, TRA’s Director of Education and Communication, Mr. Richard Kayombo said their visit to the Julius Nyerere Dam Project was important because TRA is the institution that collects taxes, so they wanted to see for themselves how citizens’ money is being used and its results for the development of the country.
Mr. Kayombo said the Julius Nyerere Dam project shows how taxes are changing the lives of citizens by increasing reliable electricity, promoting trade, investment and economic growth, thus increasing the scope of government revenue collection.
He said the increase in electricity production in the country helps reduce the challenges of electricity distribution and strengthen the provision of services to citizens and the private sector.
“This project gives us evidence that when citizens’ taxes are used properly, they bring significant tangible results and directly affect the lives of the community”, said Mr. Kayombo.
TRA Education and Communication Officers explained that the visit has given them a broader understanding of the investments made by the Government in the energy sector and promised to be good ambassadors to encourage voluntary and timely tax payment.
He has promised to continue to educate citizens that the taxes they pay have a major contribution to the implementation of development projects, for example, the Julius Nyerere Dam which is now one of the important sources of electricity in the National Grid contributing approximately a total of 2115 megawatts.
Speaking on behalf of the station management, the Acting Manager of Operations and Systems Control of the Julius Nyerere Power Station, Engineer Elinainyi Kalalu, said the visit has been productive as it has given them the opportunity to see for themselves how the public’s money is spent and its results return to them through quality electricity service.
“This visit has been very productive, I would like to emphasize that, the Station will continue to generate electricity professionally and efficiently to ensure reliable service to the citizens.
It is also important for TRA to continue to encourage tax payment, as they are what enable the Government to implement major development projects in the country”, said Engineer Kalalu.
The visit was a success as it reinforced the understanding that voluntary and timely tax payment is the basis for the implementation of major development projects, including investment in the vital electricity sector, for the well-being of the Nation.
