All districts to be built with electricity receiving and cooling stations – Minister Ndejembi

The Minister of Energy, Mr. Deogratius Ndejembi, has said that the Government through TANESCO will ensure that it builds modern electricity receiving, cooling and distribution stations in every district to ensure that the electricity generated reaches the citizens reliably and enables them to benefit from various economic and social opportunities.

Mr. Ndejembi said this on February 14, 2026, while inspecting the development of the Uhuru Electricity Receiving and Cooling Station located in Urambo, Tabora region which has a capacity of 27 megawatts and serves Urambo and Kaliua districts.

He said Tanzania generates enough electricity to meet the country’s needs but the challenge is the distribution infrastructure as some districts receive electricity that is transported over long distances.

“Currently, our country has a lot of electricity, production is greater than the country’s needs. However, the challenge we have is distribution, as the electricity transmission routes go a long way. For example, here in Urambo, electricity used to go from Tabora to Urambo, then Kaliua”, explained Mr. Ndejembi.

TANESCO CEO, Mr. Lazaro Twange said TANESCO has received instructions from the Honorable Minister to ensure that the challenges of power outages are eliminated in those districts and to collaborate with the citizens in protecting and maintaining the electricity infrastructure.

“We have received instructions from the Honorable Minister that, starting from the electricity receiving and cooling station, we should ensure that we maintain the electricity infrastructure. The Urambo station has started operating and we will ensure that the challenges of access to electricity for the Kaliua and Urambo districts are eliminated in order to reach customers effectively”, said Mr. Twange.

Speaking about the progress of the Concrete Column Manufacturing Factory project under the TCPM Subsidiary Company, the Tabora Urban District Commissioner, Upendo Wella, thanked the Honorable President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for an investment of approximately 7 billion shillings in the factory, the completion of which will contribute to the provision of employment for the residents of Tabora and neighboring regions.

Mr. Ndejembi’s visit is aimed at reviewing the development of electricity projects in Tabora Region, where he inspected the Uhuru Power Receiving and Cooling Station, Urambo, as well as the construction of the Concrete Column Manufacturing Factory, Tabora Urban.
