Government reduces fees for online content providers

THE GOVERNMENT has announced a historic boon for bloggers, young creatives and online content providers in the country by significantly reducing licensing fees.

The move is aimed at stimulating the growth of the digital economy and formalizing the activities of online bloggers.

The move follows a year-long study and strategic meetings between the Tanzania Bloggers Network (TBN) and the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), outlining the cost barriers that were hindering digital journalism in the country.

Speaking at the opening of the Annual Broadcasting Service Providers Conference (ABC 2026) in Dodoma, Feb 12, the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Mr. Hamisi Mwinjuma, said the licensing fee for online content providers has been reduced from Sh. 500,000/- to Sh. 50,000/- only, while the application form fee is only Shs. 10,000.

The reforms have also affected the group of online content aggregators whose fee has been reduced from Shs. 1,000,000/- to Shs. 100,000/- only.

The “Amateur” group has been established for emerging youth so that they can officially introduce themselves and develop their talents without financial constraints.
