The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has thanked the Government of India for its assistance because it has been contributing to the economic and social development of the country.
Dr. Mwinyi said this when he met with the Indian Ambassador to the country, Ambassador Bishwadip Dey, who arrived at the State House in Zanzibar today, December 01, 2025, to convey special congratulations following his victory in the General Elections held on October 29, 2025.
President Dr. Mwinyi has assured India that Zanzibar will continue to strengthen close and long-term relations between the two countries for the benefit of the people of both sides.
He explained that the assistance provided by India to Zanzibar in the infrastructure sectors, urban water project, training opportunities for Zanzibar youth, health and communication technology has been an important catalyst for strengthening relations between the two nations and contributing to development in different fields.
In addition, Dr. Mwinyi said Zanzibar is pleased with the cooperation it receives from the Indian Government and is ready for more cooperation especially in the trade, education and health sectors.
He commended India for continuing to provide training opportunities for Zanzibar youth in various fields.
President Dr. Mwinyi told Ambassador Bishwadip that there are more investment opportunities that Indian investors and businessmen can invest in the country and he invited them to invest especially in the tourism and blue economy sectors which are the main sectors of the Zanzibar economy.
Speaking about information and communication technology, President Dr. Mwinyi said that the training and technology development provided at the IIT Madras Institute in the country has been an important tool in enabling Zanzibar to achieve its goal of having digital services in all service delivery sectors and he promised that the Government will continue to provide more cooperation for the development of the institution.
Ambassador Bishwadip Dey said that India will continue to cooperate with Zanzibar in various fields of development as this relationship is an important pillar for maintaining and strengthening long-term relations between the two countries.
He commended President Dr. Mwinyi for his leadership that brings about major development changes and ensures Zanzibar more aid, training opportunities in India and an increase in the budget for development projects.
