The Minister of Energy, Mr. Deogratius Ndejembi has made a working visit to the Kigamboni Region and ordered immediate steps to be taken to ensure that the electricity situation in the Kigamboni Region is improved and provide residents of the area with reliable service.
Minister Ndejembi made the visit on November 29, 2025 and also inspected the Dege Receiving, Cooling and Distribution Station.
“Today we have come to see how our TANESCO Corporation can solve this challenge more quickly and they have put in place good long-term plans to ensure that they facilitate the availability of reliable electricity by building and increasing the power of the Dege Station by installing a 120 MVA transformer”, said Mr. Ndejembi.
To quickly address the existing electricity service challenge, the Corporation has come up with a quick solution by building a line that will transport electricity from the 22 Megawatt Mbagala Station to Kigamboni to increase access to electricity for the people of Kigamboni.
“With immediate action, TANESCO has assured me that there is a power line that will bring 22 Megawatts from Mbagala to Kigamboni to increase access to electricity for the residents of Kigamboni”, said Mr. Ndejembi.
In line with long-term strategies to ensure access to electricity services, TANESCO has taken immediate steps to address the issue by installing 93 transformers to eliminate the challenge of low electricity as well as the installation of 50 transformers which will be completed by the end of March, 2026 and reduce the impact of frequent power outages.
“Currently, to overcome this challenge, TANESCO has started installing transformers to overcome the low electricity situation and they are also adding another 50 transformers to enhance access to electricity services until the end of March, 2026 they will be completed and closed”, said
Kigamboni District Commissioner, Mr. Mikaya Dalmia thanked the Minister of Energy for his visit to the District and directed the Corporation to promptly implement efforts to ensure access to electricity in the district and promised to continue to cooperate with TANESCO to ensure that citizens continue to have access to electricity.

I promise that I will continue to work closely with our TANESCO colleagues in serving the citizens of Kigamboni and ensuring that they receive quality electricity services and I also urge the citizens to continue to be patient while these challenges are being addressed by the Corporation”, said Mr. Mikaya
TANESCO Deputy Managing Director for Electricity Distribution, Engineer Athanasius Nangali has assured the Minister of Energy that as the Corporation they will continue to work on his instructions and that steps to improve the situation of access to electricity within the Kigamboni Region are starting immediately to improve the service.
“As an organization, we will ensure that we immediately implement the instructions given to us today by installing transformers and bringing 22 Megawatts to Kigamboni from neighboring regions to improve the electricity situation in Kigamboni”, explained Engineer Nangali.
Minister Ndejembi’s visit is aimed at reviewing the implementation of electricity projects in the District, including the expansion of the Dege Station, the completion of which will provide Kigamboni with sufficient electricity to run economic and social activities.
