The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Mr. Albert Chalamila, on October 09, 2025, launched the ‘Konekt Umeme’, ‘Pika kwa Umeme’ program developed by TANESCO at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Temeke district.
The ‘Konekt Umeme’, ‘pika kwa umeme’ program is cost-effective, highly efficient, and the electricity used is very low compared to other energy sources.
Mr. Chalamila commended the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO and all development stakeholders for coming up with this innovative idea aimed at increasing access to clean cooking energy for Tanzanians.
“This program is the beginning of a new era in the history of electricity services in the country that supports the efforts of Hon. President Dr. Samia Suluhu in the use of clean energy”, he said
By promoting the use of clean cooking energy, Tanzanian society is moving towards better living standards.
Mr. Chalamila said it is an undeniable fact that electricity is a necessary requirement for the development of the country’s economy but also for the development of each individual.
TANESCO’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lazaro Twange said that Tanzania through the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO has officially announced a national Energy Compact with the aim of connecting 8.5 million customers by 2030, equivalent to 1.7 million new customers every year, so the launch of the Konekt Umeme, Pika kwa eleme program has come at the right time.
He said this program provides an opportunity for customers to be given a stove when they are connected to electricity and then they pay little by little through a token system, so many families will now be able to cook efficiently and at an affordable cost.
Mr. Chalamila has distributed clean electric stoves to various citizens and asked them to become ambassadors for the Tanzanian community.
