Tanzania meets with Austria’s national nuclear agency

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, has led a delegation from the Government of Tanzania in a meeting with the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), to discuss opportunities for cooperation in establishing and developing a power generation project using nuclear technology.

The meeting, which was held in Vienna, Austria on the sidelines of the 69th General Assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), CNNC representatives told Tanzania that the company has extensive experience in building and operating nuclear power plants and is ready to collaborate with Tanzania in various stages of implementing such projects.

“Tanzania has begun preparations to generate electricity using nuclear power as a fulfillment of the vision and goodwill of His Excellency, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania to see the country have sustainable, safe and reliable sources of energy, so we are ready to collaborate with CNNC in this journey to generate nuclear power”, said Engineer Mramba

He expressed his gratitude to CNNC for showing interest in collaborating with Tanzania, noting that the Government of Tanzania has decided to invest in a nuclear power generation project as part of a strategy to increase access to sustainable and reliable energy.

At the meeting, CNNC promised to collaborate with Tanzania in building professional capacity for Tanzanians through technical training, study tours and providing funding for postgraduate studies in the nuclear field.

A move aimed at ensuring that Tanzania has enough experts to manage and develop nuclear energy projects in the country.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Jing Zhang, Head of the IAEA Technical Department, Engineer Joseph Kirangi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water and Minerals from Zanzibar, Prof. Najat Mohamed, Director General of the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC), Engineer Innocent Luoga, Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy and Nuclear Experts.
