THE PRIME MINISTER, Kassim Majaliwa has said that His Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan recognizes the contribution of religious denominations including BAKWATA and all education stakeholders in strengthening values, developing knowledge and bringing about national solidarity through education.
He said education cannot be complete without values as they are what build dignity, respect and social solidarity.
“The Sixth Phase Government has been at the forefront of ensuring that education develops knowledge and skills, in line with upbringing that strengthens good character and patriotic values in Tanzanian youth”, he said
He said on September 20, 2025 when he represented the President, Dr. Samia at the Mufti Education Awards night held at the Serena Hotel conference hall in Dar es Salaam.
“The President, Dr. Samia highly commends BAKWATA for the great efforts you are making in all matters of community development, especially your contribution to promoting education and strengthening national unity through the formation of values and knowledge. The Government greatly appreciates the contribution of religious institutions like BAKWATA in supporting the upbringing of children and youth”, said Mr. Majaliwa.
He continued by saying that the Supreme Council of Muslims of Tanzania (BAKWATA) has made a great contribution in developing the education sector in the country as it has established and run schools, madrasas and colleges that provide quality religious and secular education, in parallel with building good values in the youth.
Mr. Majaliwa said the Mufti Education Awards is a national platform to recognize and appreciate unique contributions in the education, creativity, upbringing and values of Tanzanian youth.
“This event reflects the image of a nation with dedicated people, who value education and who contribute to the well-being of our nation regardless of religious beliefs or political positions”, he said
He said the awards recognize creativity, leadership, community solidarity and the contribution of stakeholders in ensuring that education becomes inclusive, quality and sustainable.
This is an event that demonstrates in practice the proverb of the Prophet (S.A.W) that says, “seek education even if it is to China”, indicating that education is a tool for the liberation and development of any society and there are no limits in seeking it.
The government, for its part, through the 2050 Development Vision, has set long-term goals to ensure that it will develop cooperation between religious institutions, the private sector and international organizations to ensure that education continues to be the engine of national development.
Mr. Majaliwa has called on the private sector, religious organizations, development organizations and society in general to invest more in education.
“The goal is to ensure that we build our youth to be creative, fair and producers of employment opportunities instead of just job seekers, increase investment in education”, he said
The Grand Mufti and Sheikh of Tanzania, Dr. Abubakar Zubeir bin Ally, said the awards were given due to Bakwata’s appreciation of education because Islam is education not ignorance.
“Education is the lifeblood of Islam and is the main pillar of Islam, Islam has made a great contribution to the world in education”, he said
Sheikh, Dr. Abubakar congratulated President, Dr. Samia for her good management in the way she manages education in the country.
“In addition to this, we also greatly appreciate the various stakeholders who are dedicated to managing the education sector and focusing on education issues”, he said
The Director of Education of Bakwata, Mr. Ally Abdalah Ally said the awards program created by the Mufti aims to elevate and encourage education stakeholders who are dedicated and committed to positive changes in education for sustainable development. At the event, twenty-three awards were presented.
