The government has allocated 600 billion shillings for the modern SGR and MGR railway projects.
Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) Director General Engineer Machibya Shiwa said on August 18, 2025 during a visit by the TRC Board of Directors to review the progress of the construction of the SGR project parallel to the MGR between Kigoma-Tabora and Tabora-Mwanza.
Engineer Shiwa said the MGR railway has a total network of 2,700 km which, if undergoing major renovations currently underway, will bring positive results to the railway transport sector in the country.
