The Inspection Committee of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) led by its Chairman CPA, Ally Rashid has begun a tour to inspect road infrastructure construction projects in Singida region.
The committee has visited two projects for the construction of the 42-meter-long Mkonjigwe stone bridge being built on the Chibumagwa-Sasajila-Makasuku-Itetema road in Sasajila Ward in Manyoni District as well as the construction of the 0.89KM-long Mandewa 69 road at asphalt level being built in Singida Municipality.
Explaining the status of the implementation of the projects, the TARURA Singida Regional Manager, Engineer Ibrahim Kibasa, said that the stone bridge project has been implemented in two phases where the first phase involved the excavation of the bridge foundation, the construction of the bridge foundation, namely the ‘Raft Foundation’ and the bridge pillars.
The second phase involved the construction of a semi-circular wall, bridge wings, embankments at the bridge entrance and exit area, construction of stone walls to connect the semi-circular area, filling in rubble, arranging stones, pouring cement on the upper part of the bridge and carving the bridge entrance roads.
Explaining the economic and social importance of the bridge, Engineer Kibasa said that the completion of the bridge construction will help boost the economy of the people by facilitating the transport and transportation of fish, salt and grains within Manyoni District and reducing deaths of citizens caused by water when crossing the river, especially during the rainy season.
Regarding the implementation status of the construction of the Mandewa 69 road, Engineer Kibasa has stated that so far the Contractor has implemented 88 percent of the work and is currently continuing with the construction of the vehicular and pedestrian crossings and the project is expected to be completed by July 31, 2025.
The Chairman of the TARURA Audit Committee, CPA Ally Rashid said that they have seen the implementation of the works and that is the purpose of their visit and advised TARURA Singida Region to continue to manage the projects so that they can be implemented by focusing on quality and involving the public in the protection of the infrastructure.
