TARURA Dar es Salaam continues construction of roads that were stopped due to rain

It has been stated that the presence of heavy rains in Dar es Salaam has led to the construction of roads in areas with tenders to stop working for a period of two months.

This was stated by the Manager of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Dar es Salaam region, Engineer Geofrey Mkinga while inspecting areas that are under tenders.

He inspected the Tabata-Mazda road (500 meters), Tabata-Kinyerezi towards Sokoni (concrete level) as well as the Kivule-Msongola road (km 9) and the road towards the district hospital and Majohe (Km. 2.7).

“As we reported earlier that many works had stopped due to the presence of heavy rains, we have now instructed the contractors to return to the ‘site’ and start work immediately”, he said.

“During heavy rains, contractors could not collect raw materials and even enter the quarries, you also cannot place soil material during that period,” he added.

However, the engineer urged all contractors who were awarded road construction tenders in the Dar es Salaam region to ensure that they enter work so that the work they were given is completed on time.

For the Msongola-Kivule road, Engineer Mkinga has instructed the contractor to continue the work until December this year, having completed the initial stages and retaining the laying of asphalt pavement and drainage.

“As you can see, towards the district hospital and Majohe, it was a bad road and the public has been complaining about it but currently there is no work stopped and the project progress is good.

Ilala Manager Engineer John Magori said they will continue to press the contractors to ensure that all areas with contracts are worked on time so that the road challenges end.

He said that contractors in all wards have started returning to the ‘site’ and work has started including in the city center, Tabata, Kitunda and Upanga.

Msongola resident, Mr. Peter Marwa has thanked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the construction of the roads as it will relieve them of the hassle of transportation in Msongola Ward-Kivule District.

The contractor building the Segerea road, Engineer Lookman Msanguka said that work stopped for a while but is currently continuing and has promised to work and complete the project as planned.

“There were challenges due to the rain because you cannot do concrete work and compact rubble during the rainy season so we stopped for two months but now we are fighting to go according to what was in the contracts”, he said.
