The Uhuru Torch arrives in Dar, will visit projects worth 113.5 Billion Shillings

The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Mr. Albert Chalamila, on April 13, 2026, received the Uhuru Torch at JK Nyerere International Airport Terminal I from North Unguja – Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam region. The Torch is expected to go through 35 development projects worth 113.5 Billion Shillings.

Mr. Chalamila said the Uhuru Torch in Dar es Salaam will be run for a distance of 392.22 kilometers where it will inspect, launch and lay the foundation stones of various development projects.

Mr. Chalamila said the goal of the Uhuru Torch 2026 race is to bring unity, solidarity and brotherhood among Tanzanians. The Torch also carries the message of maintaining peace, unity and national solidarity under the slogan;-

“Tanzania is All Ours, Let’s Stick Together to Bring Development”.

The Torch of Freedom also carries a permanent message which is the fight against HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Drugs, Nutrition and Corruption.

In parallel, after the Uhuru Torch was received by the Regional Commissioner, Mr. Chalamila, he has also handed it over to the Ilala District Commissioner, Mr. Edward Mpogolo, ready to start being run within the District where on April 14, 2026 the Torch of Freedom Race will continue in Kigamboni District.
