The Muhimbili Orthopedic and Brain Institute (MOI) has thanked the government of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for its significant investment in modern machines for testing various diseases, including modern and new MRI machines purchased from Siemens, Germany.
The thanks were given by the Chief Radiologist from the hospital, Dr. Joek Bwemelo, who said that MOI has a Siemens 1.5 Tesla MRI which is different from other machines.

He said that this serves 25-35 patients per day and is worth more than 2.6 billion Tanzanian shillings, saying that the machine is like all other machines used in the world in terms of quality and the latest technology.
“The duration of this MRI test depends largely on the type of examination, the part of the body being measured and the protocols (sequences) required to obtain high-quality images for accurate answers and the patient is tested according to what the doctor says, for example, a detailed Spine MRI test takes between 30 and 60 minutes on any machine in the world”, said Dr. Bwemelo.
He said that due to the fact that the machines are designed in a circular system, Dr. Bwemelo said that the machines have been causing concern to many, an issue that has made the MRIs come with headphones which is also a legal requirement for international safety standards to protect them from the loud noise that is heard from the nature of the operation of all MRI machines.
The MOI Institute has been forced to explain this due to misconceptions that have been expressed on social media and questions that have been asked repeatedly, many associating the Institute’s MRI machines with wear and tear, along with complaining about the long time spent in testing patients, along with the false effects that have been expressed about wearing headphones.
