The Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has visited the Tunduma Shared Border Post (OSBP) in Songwe region on February 23, 2026.
The visit aimed to review the development of infrastructure and the implementation of shared services between Tanzania and Zambia to facilitate trade and the movement of goods and passengers.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo explained that the Tunduma Border is an important economic gateway between Tanzania and Zambia, which has a significant contribution to promoting regional trade and the national income.
He noted that the ongoing infrastructure improvements will increase the speed of trade and reduce transportation costs at the border.
TRA as the parent institution managing the border was represented by the Acting TRA Songwe Regional Manager, CPA Saidi Mwamloso, as well as the Tunduma Customs Manager, Mr. Nsajigwa Mwambegele who have actively participated in the reception and provided information on the improvements in customs services and ongoing developments at the border station.
Mr. Mwambegele explained that the ongoing improvements in services and infrastructure at the station are aimed at increasing efficiency in the provision of customs services by enhancing the use of modern systems and joint coordination among institutions serving at the border.
