In order to ensure that the agenda of clean energy for cooking is implemented in practice, the Administrative Secretary of Kahama District Ms. Glory Absalum has asked the councilors to be ambassadors of change by educating the public on the importance of using electric energy for cooking which is safe for health, cheap and protects the environment.
Speaking on February 17, 2026 on behalf of the Head of Kahama District during the opening of the working session between TANESCO and councilors of the 20 wards of the District, Mrs. Glory emphasized that access to electricity is an important opportunity to improve people’s lives.
“We are very grateful to Mr. President for continuing to bring us electricity projects that make it easier to access energy. Today, mothers can cook with electricity while being safe, taking care of their health and the environment. The use of electricity reduces dependence on wood and charcoal and thus protects our forests,” explained Mrs. Glory.
Kahama Urban State Member of Parliament, Mr. Benjamin Ngayiwa, has asked the councilors to cooperate closely with TANESCO to protect the electricity infrastructure where he has noted that the destruction of the infrastructure by unscrupulous people is one of the factors affecting the availability of good electricity service.
The Manager of TANESCO Shinyanga, Engineer Khadija Mbaruku, has thanked the leaders for responding to the call for the work session and promised cooperation to ensure that electricity reaches the people on time and based on development priorities.
“We thank you for taking the time to participate in this session. TANESCO will continue to work with you to ensure that the electricity service is improved, while giving priority to social institutions such as schools, clinics and houses of worship,” emphasized Engineer Khadija.
The working session was also attended by the Honorable Mayor of Kahama Municipality, Mr. Mataluma Kaniki, aimed at building the capacity of councilors regarding TANESCO’s activities and plans in their areas.
