The Administrative Secretary of Kahama District, Shinyanga Region, Ms. Glory Absalum, has said that electricity is important and should be given priority to mining areas following its contribution in opening economic opportunities and stimulating the development of the relevant areas as well as the citizens in general.
Speaking during the opening of a working session between TANESCO and councilors from Msalala District Council on behalf of the Kahama District Commissioner, February 16, 2026, the Administrative Secretary commended TANESCO for its procedure of involving councilors on the development of electricity projects and the work being done by the Corporation since councilors are representatives of the citizens in their areas, so it is easy to send information directly.
He said that despite the great work being done by TANESCO in bringing electricity to mining areas, there is still a need to ensure that various institutions such as dispensaries and schools are reached by this important service.
“I take this opportunity to commend TANESCO for its good work in delivering electricity to mining areas. Here in Msalala, the main activity is mining and its benefits have been clearly seen. This process of involving councilors is a good step that also helps to identify other priority areas in delivering electricity services,” explained Ms. Glory.
TANESCO Shinyanga Regional Acting Manager, Engineer Antony Tarimo said TANESCO has implemented strategic projects, including the expansion of the Bulyanhulu and Buzwagi power receiving and cooling stations to eliminate the challenge of access to electricity in those areas.
“The demand for electricity has been increasing in line with the growth of economic activities. However, we have already implemented strategic projects to expand the Bulyanhulu and Buzwagi power receiving and cooling stations to ensure that citizens have reliable electricity,” emphasized Engineer Tarimo.
Some councilors have thanked TANESCO for their involvement, especially in the implementation of electricity projects, where they have emphasized that this step will help them convey information to the citizens, especially when they need clarification in public meetings.
This comes as a continuation of TANESCO’s efforts to hold meetings that bring together councilors, local government chairmen and ward executives, with the aim of building their capacity regarding the development of electricity projects in their areas, the protection of electricity infrastructure, the proper use of electricity as well as the use of clean energy for cooking with electricity.
