Health sector IT experts meet to discuss interoperable health systems

Dodoma: The Director of TEHAMA at the Ministry of Health, Mr. Silvanus Ilomo, has said the Government is continuing to improve health sector systems so that they are interoperable from primary care centers to the national level with the aim of facilitating rapid access to services and reducing medical costs for citizens.

Ilomo said this on February 05, 2026 in Dodoma at a meeting of heads of IT units in the health sector, which included discussions on the implementation of the instructions of the Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Mchengerwa to have a single health services management system.

Mr. Ilomo said it is of great importance to ensure that IT systems in the health sector are interoperable.

This situation will facilitate the exchange of important information between health care centers without technological barriers.

The joint interoperability of IT systems will eliminate duplication of information and errors resulting from frequent data entry. Therefore, the quality of care for patients will increase as their information will be easily and accurately available.

The Director of ICT from the Prime Minister’s Office – TAMISEMI, Mr. Eric Kitali said it is important to put in place a robust referral system that will enable tracking the patient’s progress from one facility to another.

This step will help track medical history and ensure that each patient receives the right care at the right time.

He stressed that the health sector is one and promised to continue the existing cooperation and solidarity between the Ministry of Health and TAMISEMI.
