The Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) has continued its meter inspection exercise for electricity customers to identify those involved in electricity theft.
The exercise was held on February 02, 2026 in Dodoma led by a team of various experts including engineers, security officers and electricians from TANESCO.
During the inspection, TANESCO has succeeded in identifying several customers who were using electricity illegally where two meters were found to have been arbitrarily moved without following the established procedures.
Among them, one customer was found to have diverted electricity from his meter, while another had been using electricity for about two years without paying any fees.
Speaking about the exercise, the Head of Revenue Control Unit at TANESCO, Engineer Mposheleye Mwasenga, said the Corporation continues to call on citizens and all electricity customers to consider the legal use of electricity.
“We urge citizens and customers in general to purchase electricity according to their actual consumption and avoid using incorrect methods, as such measures lead to unnecessary costs and severe penalties,” said Engineer Mwasenga.
TANESCO has stressed that it will continue with the inspection exercise in various areas of the country as part of controlling revenue loss and ensuring safe and legal use of electricity.
