BoT attends funeral of first BoT Governor

The Governor of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba, participated in the funeral of the former First Governor of the Bank of Tanzania, the Late Edwin Isaac Mbiliewi Mtei, held in Arusha on January 24, 2026.

Expressing condolences at the funeral, Governor Tutuba stressed the importance of honoring the Late Mzee Mtei by promoting the principles of hard work and integrity.

He noted that the Bank of Tanzania will continue to honor the courageous leader by increasing efforts in the implementation of his duties, believing that work is the main foundation of national development.
Governor Tutuba said that the BoT, with its responsibility to manage the country’s economy, continues to witness economic growth resulting from the efforts and performance of citizens in various sectors.

He stressed that the Central Bank will continue to set and manage sound economic policies, financial systems and an enabling environment for all economic activities that stimulate sustainable national development.

The funeral of the late Edwin Mtei was attended by various government leaders including the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, the Minister of Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, the Retired Governor, Prof. Florens Luoga and citizens, paying tribute to him for his great contribution in establishing and strengthening the institution of the Central Bank of Tanzania.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba, participated in the funeral activities of the former First Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania, the late Edwin Isaac Mbiliewi Mtei.
