THE PRIME MINISTER, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, on January 05, 2026, launched the Chukwani Secondary School and used the opportunity to congratulate the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi for the major improvements he has made in various sectors including education.
“I congratulate Dr. Mwinyi for the construction of these modern schools with good facilities and considering the best use of land for the construction of apartment schools. Education is the right inheritance, children, study hard and make good use of this opportunity that the Government has given you. Make sure you take good care of this infrastructure.”
The Prime Minister has officially launched the School as part of the implementation of the 62nd anniversary of the Revolution in practice, where he said that by prioritizing the development of the education sector, Tanzanian youth will be able to liberate themselves economically.
“The construction of this Chukwani Secondary School is a continuation of the Government’s commitment to build modern schools that meet the requirements of the new curriculum. This school that I am opening today has been built to modern standards, with Science and Computer Laboratories, Libraries and Classrooms that facilitate the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning”, he said.
The Prime Minister has stressed that the Government will continue to invest in education that builds competencies, skills and values in order to prepare young people with the ability to think, design and work practically.
He said that the preparations being made for the young people are not only for examinations but also to cope with life, the job market and contribute to the development of the Nation, so the Government will continue with the construction of modern schools and the implementation of the new curriculum as well as strengthening teacher preparation and curriculum reviews so that quality education brings real productivity to the Nation.
Dr. Mwigulu has called on citizens, teachers and students to prioritize the protection, maintenance and proper use of the educational infrastructure that has been invested at great expense, as it is public property and the legacy of current and future generations.
The Prime Minister has also urged parents and Tanzanians in general to strive to shoulder the responsibility of raising young people together.
“This responsibility of upbringing begins at home, and is then conveyed to teachers in schools. This responsibility is not only for teachers, but it is the responsibility of all of us as a society.”
The theme of the celebration states: “Peace and Unity are the Foundation of Our Development”, which the Prime Minister said reflects the fundamental truth that the development of any nation cannot be achieved without the existence of peace, stability and solidarity of its citizens.
He said the theme reminds citizens that all the achievements they are seeing today, including major investments in education and social infrastructure, have been possible because of an environment of peace.
“My fellow citizens; the importance of this theme lies in encouraging the community to continue to protect and respect peace, strengthen national unity and participate together in nation building”.
Deputy Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Mrs. Khadija Salum Ali said the Government has planned to continue the construction of modern schools that use ICT to improve the learning and teaching environment.
“ICT enables teachers anywhere to teach students.”
For his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Khamisi Abdallah Said said the project, which involves the construction of various infrastructure including 42 classrooms, teachers’ offices, laboratories and a computer room, has cost 6.1 billion shillings and began from May 2025 to December 2025.
Initially, some students of the school including Shekha Hababuu Makame of Form Two have thanked the Government for the construction of the infrastructure which will increase their skills and knowledge, so they have promised not to let it down and instead they will study hard and with knowledge.
