The Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr. Leonard Akwilapo, has directed the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to strengthen research and innovation in the construction sector to develop methods and technologies that will enable more Tanzanians to get better, safer and more affordable homes.
Minister Akwilapo gave the instructions during his working visit to the NHC, saying that in-depth research is an important tool to reduce construction costs without compromising quality, while also considering the real needs of citizens in various parts of the country.
He said that through scientific research and the use of innovative technology, the NHC will be able to design types of houses and construction systems that take into account the economic capacity of the people, the environment and the availability of construction materials.
He said the Government will continue to support the efforts of the NHC in research and development in collaboration with higher education institutions, experts and private sector stakeholders.
During the visit, Minister Akwilapo commended the management and staff of NHC for their contribution to the implementation of the Government’s decent housing agenda, noting that the Agency’s achievements reflect the professionalism, responsibility and patriotism of its staff.
The Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr. Kaspar Mmuya, has urged NHC staff to be a good example of living in decent housing, including building or owning their own homes, in order to demonstrate in practice the commitment to decent housing and economic self-sufficiency.
Mr. Mmuya stressed that NHC staff should be a model of the success of housing policies, explaining that it is not expected to see Agency staff engaging in behaviors that are inconsistent with their status and responsibilities.
For his part, the Director General of NHC, Mr. Hamad Abdallah, assured the Minister that the Agency will continue to carry out its duties effectively, adhere to Government policies and ensure that all projects benefit the citizens and contribute to the sustainable development of the nation.
