The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that the Government will continue to collaborate with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in efforts to strengthen the institution’s performance, especially in key areas of revenue collection.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this today, December 17, 2025, when he met with the Commissioner General of TRA, Mr. Yussuf Juma Mwenda, along with some of the Authority’s senior executives, who arrived at the State House, Zanzibar, to discuss issues of revenue collection efficiency and service delivery.
He said revenue is the main pillar of the Government in the implementation of development projects, and urged TRA to continue strengthening service delivery in every area with opportunities to increase revenue collection efficiency.
President Dr. Mwinyi added that the move is important due to the rapid growth of port activities in Zanzibar, citing Fumba Port as among the fastest growing ports following the increase in cargo transportation.
He said the Government has put in place special strategies for Pemba ports with the aim of reducing freight transport costs, a move that will bring relief to traders and citizens in general.
In the conversation, President Dr. Mwinyi commended the step taken by TRA to install new Scanners at the port, noting that the step will increase Government revenue and enhance national security.
Speaking about TRA’s commitment to holding discussions with stakeholders, President Dr. Mwinyi said the step is fundamental in finding solutions to challenges that arise in the implementation of the Authority’s responsibilities, especially in revenue collection.
TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yussuf Mwenda, has expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation received from the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, a situation that contributes to strengthening the delivery of services by the Authority effectively.
The Commissioner General has informed that TRA is continuing with a plan to install Scanners at all ports in the country with the aim of strengthening the functioning and control of Government revenue.
