In an effort to strengthen the implementation of the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Energy for Cooking, the Ministry of Energy through the Clean Energy for Cooking unit has provided training to 133 employees of the Office of the President, Public Service Management and Good Governance.
Presenting a report on the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Energy for Cooking, Engineer Anitha Ringia from the Ministry of Energy said the training aimed to increase awareness on the benefits of clean energy, including reducing the health and environmental impacts resulting from the use of firewood and charcoal in cooking, while explaining to employees that the use of clean energy is part of the national agenda to protect the environment and improve the well-being of citizens.

“This training demonstrates the Government’s commitment to ensuring that Public Institutions become role models in the use of clean cooking energy and through you, the employees, you will create awareness that will bring wider national awareness in the use of clean energy and ultimately reduce dependence on environmentally unfriendly energy”, said Ringia
He said the Government will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that clean energy is easily available, and benefits all Tanzanians to ensure that by 2034, 80% of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy.
In addition, through the training, Mha. Ringia has called on all public servants to be at the forefront in sensitizing the community about the use of clean cooking energy while encouraging them to use the understanding they have gained to become ambassadors in their workplaces and the communities they live in.
For his part, the Acting Head of the Government Communications Unit from the Ministry of Energy, Ms. Neema Mbuja explained that through the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Cooking Energy for 2024, a National Communication Strategy for Clean Cooking Energy was created with the aim of increasing public and institutional awareness about the importance of using clean cooking energy to achieve the National goals of ensuring that citizens cook using clean, safe and environmentally friendly energy.
“The communication strategy is based on the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Cooking Energy and its aim is to provide education and enable Tanzanians to obtain accurate information on the use of clean cooking energy. They obtain this education through various channels including radio, television, social media and open exhibitions. Also, through this strategy, we have continued to mobilize the public and conduct various campaigns in line with the slogan that says Clean Cooking Energy Saves Lives and the Environment”, said Ms. Mbuja
In addition, Ms. Mbuja added that the Communication Strategy aims to convey messages to the community through the media, public meetings and various trainings but also to involve every Tanzanian according to their age and position with the aim of ensuring that the intended message reaches all Tanzanians.
And the Senior Research Engineer from the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) Mha. Catherine Mwegoha explained that TANESCO has continued to provide education on the use of clean cooking energy, especially electricity, as it is safe and affordable for consumers, especially by using stoves such as “Pressure Cooker” and “Induction Cooker” (Jiko Janja) as these stoves have been researched and cook natural foods such as ugali, beans, macande and bananas using less electricity compared to other stoves.
Closing the Training, the Representative of the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President – SERVICE, who is the Director of Policy Development of the Office, Mr. Cyrus Kapinga has emphasized that their participation is important in accelerating the use of good and environmentally friendly technology by continuing to contribute to the Government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and protect the health of citizens.
“We as Public servants are part of society and we must ensure that we implement the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Energy for Cooking as each Ministry has a responsibility to ensure that employees use clean energy, so in implementing this, we will establish an internal strategy on how we will obtain positive cooker stoves as an Institution and ensure that every Employee is provided with such a stove so that every Employee can adapt to these changes”, emphasized Mr. Kapinga
In the training, the Employees had the opportunity to see how the smart stove (Induction Cooker) works efficiently and saves time without spending a lot of money.
