The Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Salome Makamba, has emphasized that the use of clean energy for cooking is not a luxury but a necessary necessity for health, the environment and production efficiency.
She said the measure helps reduce more than 70% of the time spent cooking, thus relieving citizens, especially women, of the burden of spending long hours in the kitchen.
She said this in Dodoma, November 25, 2025, when she spoke to the Rural Energy Agency (REA) Board during her visit to institutions under the Ministry of Energy.
She has urged Tanzanians to abandon the use of firewood and charcoal, noting that the world is moving towards the use of clean energy and Tanzania should go hand in hand with these changes.
REA Director General, Engineer Hassan Said, said access to electricity in the country continues to increase, with 39,000 of the 64,359 hamlets already electrified, equivalent to 60%.
He said projects are ongoing in 2,500 hamlets while 9,000 are in the final stages of infrastructure installation.
Mrs. Makamba also visited the Zuzu Cooling and Transmission Station to review the progress of work and ongoing construction stages.
