TANESCO has made major reforms in electricity service

📍 Dodoma: The Minister for Energy, Mr. Deogratius Ndejembi, has said that the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) has continued to make major reforms in improving access to electricity service in the country, a move that has increased confidence and various economic opportunities for the citizens.

Mr. Ndejembi said this on November 22, 2025, in Dodoma region during his meeting with TANESCO leaders aimed at assessing and reminding each other of the important responsibilities of serving the citizens.

He used the meeting to urge TANESCO executives to increase speed and creativity in connecting citizens to electricity as part of the implementation of the Mission 300 Strategic Plan.

He said that for the plan to be implemented properly, it is necessary to take legal action against all contractors who are found to be negligent or fail to comply with the government’s speed to ensure that every Tanzanian benefits from electricity service.

“I congratulate TANESCO for the great and good work in providing electricity to the citizens, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Increase creativity and good methods to connect the citizens to electricity quickly. I believe that if we collaborate with our stakeholders, we will achieve the goal of connecting 1.7 million customers per year,” said Mr. Ndejembi

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Salome Makamba has thanked the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for investing in electricity projects that have been with a sincere commitment to ensuring that all citizens in urban and rural areas are provided with electricity services.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba said TANESCO has been implementing its projects to international standards, a move that makes Tanzania a model for other nations in the construction and management of electricity projects.

The Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of TANESCO, Ambassador Zuhura Bundala, said that the Corporation has patriotic and dedicated executives who continue to work hard, stressing that the board will continue to collaborate with the Corporation to achieve the set goals.

TANESCO Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, said that during the 100 days of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Corporation will complete electricity projects faster, including the Kishapu solar power project which has currently reached 83 percent of implementation.

“During the 100 days of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, we have planned to ensure that some electricity projects are completed, including the Kishapu solar power project. We are also continuing with the strategy to connect citizens to electricity, the goal is to reach 1.7 million customers per year,” explained Mr. Twange.

The working session involved senior TANESCO leaders, zonal directors, regional and district managers, and was officially opened by the Minister of Energy, Mr. Deogratius Ndejembi who was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Ms. Salome Makamba.
